We had a great month of outreach and hospitality. We have been busy connecting to those in our area, people at our church, new friends, and friends of friends. During the month of October, we hosted 17 get togethers, 15 being over a meal. We had visitors from Romania, Togo, Vietnam, Guadeloupe, Burkina Faso, Thailand, America, and France. We tried to prepare cultural friendly foods and activities for our guests. We had a friend from Burkina Faso give us some dried hibiscus flowers and so our guest from Togo helped with making a delicious drink, common in West Africa, called Bissap and a Togolese side dish (yes, I put her to work cooking at my house on her 1st visit). At another get together we also set up a pizza bar for the kids to be able to make their own pizza. It was a big success; the kids had a blast. We also made s’mores with the kids in the back yard. We cooked American meals for those curious about American food. Brenda even took up crocheting so she could meet regularly with a new friend and talk about the Bible.
Each visit allowed time to encourage one another on our spiritual journeys. What a joy to be with fellow believers as we shared testimonies, God’s Word, and lessons we have learned that have helped us grow in the faith. It was also exciting to sit over our open Bibles as we shared the Good News of the Gospel with those who had never heard and question why we do things the way we do. We were able to encourage them to take the next step in their spiritual journey towards trusting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We are also thankful for how we have been able to plug in at church. Eric is now part of one of the worship teams and has been enjoying playing his violin again. This month he was able to lead and do a small devotional for Wednesday prayer, and lead during our weekly “home group” meeting. We are so thankful for the patience and kindness of those at Une Nouvelle Eglise as they sit through hearing our poor French. The church’s outreach has been going well. We are thankful for the opportunity to connect with those who live around the church. Eric was able to give out few French Bibles this last month, one being to a lady he met with others from the church during outreach. He was also able to talk to and give out the “Injil” (the Muslim word for the New Testament) to a few Muslim men. Please pray that they would read it and come to a saving knowledge of Christ. We also started taking a French language class. This class is for French pronunciation. We have had French classes through the years, but we have never actually taken a French pronunciation class. We are finding out that, although we are pretty close, we are mispronouncing many words. We are thankful for the class but having to go to class and being strapped with daily homework again, just adds more work to our plates. |
